Following a very successful 2025, AtkinsRéalis is looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to support a variety of exciting projects, including Hinkley Point C (HPC), Sizewell C (SZC), Small Modular Reactors (SMR), and other Nuclear Projects. The role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile nuclear infrastructure projects. You'll be joining a friendly and rapidly growing MEP team which is a part of Nuclear New Build (NNB) business. The team specializes in supporting the delivery of nuclear new build projects for major operators in the nuclear sector.

Responsibilities

As an HVAC Engineer, you will be responsible for providing consultancy services to our clients. This includes and not limited to:

  • Developing and reviewing HVAC system designs, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and technical assessments to identify optimal solutions for mechanical systems.
  • Preparing detailed specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Providing technical guidance and support during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Preparing HVAC system design including load calculations, equipment selection, duct and piping layout, and control systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborating with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to provide innovative solutions.
  • Undertake design and review of a variety of Mechanical design elements i.e., Air conditioning, ventilation, tunnel ventilation, plumbing and firefighting designs.
  • Prepare and validate BOQs for HVAC systems including equipment, accessories, ductwork, piping and accurately estimating man-hours for HVAC design.
  • You will be a competent designer to CIBSE, SMACNA and ASHARE standards.

Your Role

  • Assist in the design, optioneering, evaluation, and assessment of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including Mechanical, Process, and Civil/Structural engineers, to support project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and contribute to the resolution of project challenges.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of project plans and schedules.
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation, including reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Should be able to review 3D models.
  • Preparation of Load Estimation, Sizing of equipment's, Pump head calculation etc.
  • Software Skills required: Hevacomp, HAP and IES, Navisworks & Revit.

About You

  • Graduate or Post-graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university.
  • 7+ years and above working experience in HVAC systems, preferably within the nuclear or energy sector.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Eager to learn and develop professionally, with a proactive approach to work.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is desirable.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar CAD/BIM tools is a plus.
