What You'll Do

As a Viasat Offensive Security Engineer, you will be responsible for simulating real-world cyberattacks against Viasat's hardware, service network infrastructure, satellite ground stations and related systems. You will conduct comprehensive technical cybersecurity risk assessments and report your findings to technical and executive teams, providing clear, actionable improvements to team practices and activities.

The day-to-day

  • Network Penetration Testing: Perform gray-box and black-box penetration tests on the Viasat network infrastructure, encompassing customer-facing networks, firewalls, and core ISP systems.
  • Vulnerability Exploitation: Develop and execute custom exploits to demonstrate the impact of identified vulnerabilities and combine multiple weaknesses into chained attack scenarios.
  • Reporting and Communication: Create high-quality, comprehensive reports that detail vulnerabilities, risk levels, and recommendations for engineering teams.
  • Threat Research: Stay current with the latest security trends, exploits, and methodologies.
  • Tool Development: Develop custom scripts and tools to automate testing processes and improve the efficiency of security assessments.

Additional:

  • This position is located onsite. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.

What You'll Need

Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience: This role is intended for someone with 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience
  • Citizenship: This position requires U.S. citizenship
  • Additional:
    • Familiarity of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP), and operating systems (Linux, Windows, RTOS)
    • Familiarity with penetration testing methodologies such as OWASP or Penetration Test Execution Standard.
    • Familiarity with programming languages (JavaScript, Python, Ruby, RUST, C, C++)
    • Strong communications skills, the ability to write detailed reports, and deliver technical briefings

Salary range

$82,500.00 - $129,500.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $102,000.00- $153,000.00/ annually
