Job Description

Staff Software Engineer (Python / Distributed Systems) – Stealth Startup

Location: Fully Remote (Global)

Compensation: base + equity

Type: Full-Time

Velocity Tech has partnered with a well-funded, stealth-stage startup that is building next-generation distributed systems and large-scale data/AI infrastructure. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in Python, distributed architectures, and scalable system design. This is a rare opportunity to join an elite founding engineering team working on high-impact greenfield development.Overview of the Role

The Staff Software Engineer will play a key role in designing and building the company’s core platform—high-performance, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems that power large-scale data processing, model serving, and next-generation pipelines.

This role requires someone who is both a strong individual contributor and capable of contributing to architectural decisions, technical direction, and mentoring other engineers when needed.

You will work in a fast-moving, highly autonomous environment where solving complex engineering challenges is the norm.Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement large-scale distributed systems using Python.
  • Build and optimise data pipelines, ETL workflows, and scalable processing frameworks.
  • Develop high-performance APIs, services, and microservice components (FastAPI, GRPC, REST).
  • Deploy, serve, and optimise ML models (experience with Triton and model scaling is a plus).
  • Implement observability, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines, and development best practices.
  • Work closely with founders and a small, highly technical team to define engineering roadmap.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex system components with minimal oversight.
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and scalability with innovative solutions.
  • Optional: contribute to blockchain, tokenization, or smart-contract development (Solana).

Required Experience

  • Expert-level Python engineering (8+ years preferred).
  • Strong experience building distributed systems, microservices, and scalable backend architecture.
  • Ability to independently handle large, complex engineering initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-threading, concurrency, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with ML model deployment or serving frameworks (e.g., Triton, PyTorch).
  • Proven ability to design secure, fault-tolerant, production-grade systems.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with blockchain, crypto, or smart contract development.
  • Experience deploying or building on Solana.
  • Knowledge of Rust or willingness to work across languages.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Experience in early-stage or growth-stage startup environments.

Who This Role Is Ideal For

This role is perfect for an engineer who wants:

  • Full ownership of system architecture
  • The freedom to build complex distributed systems from scratch
  • A seat at the table in a high-calibre founding team
  • Strong compensation + equity upside in a stealth startup
  • A fully remote, flexible work environment
