As a Backend Engineering Team Manager, you will lead and mentor a team of engineers, driving the successful delivery of backend projects while fostering professional growth. You will be instrumental in shaping the team's technical direction, improving processes, and supporting recruitment and onboarding. Collaborating closely with Product and Design, you will ensure roadmap commitments are met and that projects are delivered iteratively and with high quality. Accountabilities:
- Lead and support a team of backend engineers, focusing on delivery, mentorship, and process improvement
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to ensure roadmap commitments are executed successfully
- Mentor engineers in technical decision-making, professional growth, and active coaching
- Establish delivery estimates, monitor progress, and help the team overcome obstacles
- Manage recruitment, hiring, and onboarding to grow a diverse and high-performing team
- Foster a culture of documentation, knowledge sharing, and open communication
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace, supporting collaboration in a remote-first environment
- 7+ years of experience in software development, including 2+ years in engineering leadership
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Strong backend development background (e.g., Ruby, Python) and understanding of databases, caching, and background processing
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with scalability, reliability, observability, security, and incident response practices
- Proven ability to guide teams, resolve blockers, and ensure delivery commitments
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and confident in leading high-performing engineering teams
