About The Role

The Senior Engineer position is a hybrid role primarily based in Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, Mountain View, or Sunnyvale, with a minimum of three days per week reporting to the office. Candidates located in the Seattle, Washington area may be considered for a remote arrangement. This role is integral to the AI Cloud and Developer Infrastructure organization, which is responsible for delivering essential tools and services that enhance the daily work of engineers involved in autonomous vehicle development.

The primary focus is on improving the development lifecycle, including code checkout, modification, compilation, testing, merging, and deployment, ensuring engineers have access to world-class tools and a seamless experience. The Senior Engineer will lead initiatives to identify pain points, implement scalable solutions, and influence the technical roadmap to accelerate development and innovation in autonomous vehicle technology.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python, or similar at a production level
  • Strong understanding of Unix/Linux systems, SSH, and networking fundamentals
  • Excellent attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to lead, influence, and collaborate with internal and external teams
  • Strong research, documentation, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs and communicate technical decisions effectively
  • Experience managing competing priorities and working effectively under pressure
  • Passion for mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Genuine interest in self-driving technology and its potential societal impact

Responsibilities

  • Identify engineering pain points and design reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions to address them
  • Influence and contribute to the team's technical roadmap and strategic initiatives
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies through proof-of-concept exercises and pilot projects
  • Implement improvements to AV development toolchains and services, directly impacting engineering productivity and core metrics
  • Promote and enforce software engineering best practices within the team
  • Help shape and nurture a positive engineering culture aligned with company values
  • Guide the team in balancing impactful delivery with technical debt management
  • Mentor and develop engineers to enhance their technical skills and career growth
  • Set high standards for accountability and professionalism
  • Deliver individual and team-based results that contribute to organizational goals
  • Manage external requests by setting boundaries and prioritizing initiatives aligned with team vision
