About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated DevOps / Site Reliability Platform Engineer specializing in Kubevirt and Kubernetes to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in transforming Ford’s infrastructure solutions to support next-generation applications, including internal business systems, mobile applications, and autonomous vehicle hosting environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex infrastructure environments such as RedHat OpenShift and OpenShift Virtualization, primarily within our on-premises data centers. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence and shape new solutions, enhance platform capabilities, and improve developer experiences by reducing operational toil and complexity. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, a strong technical background, and the ability to work effectively within a geographically distributed team to meet the growing data and compute demands of Ford’s cutting-edge initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • 3+ years of strong Linux knowledge across multiple platforms such as RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE
  • 1+ years of experience with Kubevirt and Kubernetes
  • 1+ years of experience with virtualization and container technologies
  • 1+ years of experience with cloud-based PaaS and IaaS environments, preferably GCP and Azure
  • 2+ years of experience with GIT and CI/CD pipelines, including Tekton, Argo, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins
  • Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring
  • Proficiency in Kustomize and Helm for configuration management
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Go, Python, or Bourne Shell
  • Knowledge of RESTful API concepts and JSON data formats
  • Understanding of application development architectures and web deployment methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Upgrade and maintain OpenShift Virtualization Specific Operators to ensure platform stability and performance
  • Manage OpenShift Virtualization Namespaces and Permissions to support secure and efficient operations
  • Develop automation scripts and tools related to provisioning, Day2 operations, decommissioning, and migration processes
  • Collaborate with team members on code standards, technical designs, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and platform architecture planning
  • Implement and optimize virtualization/container strategies supporting various application flavors
  • Drive improvements in the Kubevirt/Kubernetes platform to enhance developer experience and operational efficiency
  • Monitor system health and performance using Prometheus and Grafana, addressing issues proactively
  • Contribute to documentation including run books, disaster recovery plans, and platform architecture
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support deployment and maintenance of infrastructure in remote locations globally
