Hansell Tierney is partnering with an innovative aerospace engineering organization to identify a Environmental Test Engineer to join their growing team.



Location: Southern California – onsite (Relocation support is provided)

Compensation: The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $117,500 – $153,000, plus equity. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and performance.



Position Overview

We’re partnering with a forward-looking aerospace engineering organization seeking a Environmental Test Engineer to join its dynamic team. This role focuses on planning, executing, and analyzing environmental and functional tests for advanced aerospace vehicle components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with avionics systems testing, environmental qualification standards, and test instrumentation.

You’ll play a critical role in ensuring that flight-critical systems meet rigorous performance and reliability requirements for future aerospace missions.



Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain environmental test plans, procedures, and reports to meet program and regulatory requirements
  • Support and participate in environmental test campaigns both onsite and at external facilities
  • Coordinate and manage test execution, including travel to partner test labs as needed
  • Perform failure analysis, develop root-cause assessments, and implement corrective action plans
  • Operate and maintain test equipment including vibration tables, thermal chambers, and related instrumentation
  • Design, implement, and support environmental test instrumentation systems
  • Interpret and apply relevant standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, or similar



Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following: electrical engineering, software engineering, avionics, experimental aircraft, or launch vehicle integration
  • Understanding of environmental testing methods and principles
  • Experience integrating electrical systems into aerospace vehicles
  • Familiarity with designing and deploying test instrumentation systems
  • Ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate technical efforts across teams
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a DoD security clearance

Preferred:

  • Experience with environmental acceptance and qualification testing for aerospace systems
  • Experience developing test system software and automation tools
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and RF component testing
  • Familiarity with EMC testing, DO-160, SMC-S-16, or similar industry standards
  • Experience using NI cRIO/cDAQ, Curtiss-Wright KAM-500, or IADS systems
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and electrical design tools (e.g., Capital, Zuken)



Technical Skills

Preferred:

  • Programming experience with Python, LabVIEW, or MATLAB
  • Experience with issue tracking and configuration management tools (e.g., Jira, Git)
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell)


Education & Experience

  • Level II: Bachelor’s degree with 2–5 years of engineering experience, or equivalent
  • Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree with 5–10 years of engineering experience, or equivalent


Work Environment

  • Full-time onsite position based in Southern California
  • Occasional travel (less than 10%) required
