About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Frontend Developer specializing in Ruby on Rails to join our expanding engineering team. In this fully remote, full-time position, you will play a pivotal role in developing accessible, responsive, and maintainable user experiences for high-impact government services. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with product managers, designers, and engineers within an agile environment to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet user needs and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will possess a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and a passion for building robust applications using modern tools and practices. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 4-8 years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails in a production environment
  • Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails development, particularly with ERB templates
  • Proficiency in core web technologies: JavaScript, Sass/SCSS, CSS-in-JS, and Web Components (Lit)
  • Strong knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles
  • Experience designing, building, or maintaining shared component libraries or design systems
  • Familiarity with federal or state government design systems such as USWDS or static site generators like Eleventy
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and monitoring tools like New Relic or Datadog
  • Knowledge of API-first development, including GraphQL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an agile environment
  • Experience with stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Proficiency with agile tools such as Jira, Slack, and Confluence
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; some federal roles may require U.S. citizenship and security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to full-stack feature development, creating responsive, accessible user interfaces for critical government services
  • Build and enhance key user flows including forms, data collection/reporting, and user access management
  • Support the design system by actively contributing to frontend standards and supporting Web Components development with Lit
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to refine technical requirements and ensure alignment with project goals
  • Lead by example in maintaining high code quality through active participation in code reviews and adherence to accessibility standards
  • Utilize strong technical judgment and clear communication to ensure development efforts align with overall business objectives
  • Foster innovation by identifying opportunities for process improvement and new technology adoption
  • Engage with stakeholders regularly, providing project updates and addressing technical concerns effectively
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, contribute to project planning, and support continuous deployment practices
