About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated DevOps / Site Reliability Platform Engineer with expertise in Kubevirt and Kubernetes to join our team. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure solutions such as RedHat OpenShift and RedHat OpenShift Virtualization, supporting various application types across geographically distributed teams. The primary focus will be on virtualization and container strategies, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient environments that cater to Ford's increasing data and compute demands. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving innovation by shaping new platform features, improving developer experiences, and reducing operational complexities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the transformation of Ford's infrastructure landscape, working on on-premises data centers and collaborating with global teams to implement cutting-edge solutions that support internal applications, mobile platforms, and autonomous vehicle hosting requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- 3+ years of strong Linux knowledge across multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE).
- 1+ years of experience with Kubevirt and Kubernetes.
- 1+ years of experience with virtualization and container technologies.
- 1+ years of experience with cloud-based PaaS and IaaS, with GCP and Azure experience preferred.
- 2+ years of experience working with GIT and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Tekton, Argo, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
- Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and visualization.
- Proficiency in Kustomize and Helm for Kubernetes configuration management.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Go, Python, or Bourne Shell.
- Knowledge of RESTful API concepts and JSON formats.
- Understanding of application development architectures and web deployment methodologies.
- Upgrade and maintain OpenShift Virtualization-specific Operators to ensure platform stability and performance.
- Manage OpenShift Virtualization namespaces and permissions to support secure and efficient resource allocation.
- Develop automation scripts and tools for provisioning, Day 2 operations, decommissioning, and migration activities.
- Collaborate with team members to establish and adhere to code standards and technical best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, and platform architecture discussions to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the virtualization and container environments to meet operational SLAs.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of platform features, developer experience, and operational workflows.
- Assist in integrating monitoring solutions such as Prometheus and Grafana for system health and performance tracking.
- Support cross-functional teams during deployment and upgrade activities, ensuring minimal downtime and risk.
