About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff iOS Engineer to join our Square Staff team, a suite of labor and workforce management tools designed to streamline operations for merchants. In this role, you will lead the development of seller-facing experiences on iOS, focusing on permissions, authentication, timekeeping, and pay workflows. Your work will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams including design, product management, data analytics, and engineering to create scalable, reliable, and intuitive mobile solutions. You will set the technical direction, mentor engineering talent, and drive platform quality and performance at scale. Your leadership will be instrumental in transforming complex workforce operations into fast, trustworthy, and engaging mobile experiences that directly impact seller success and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Approximately 12+ years of relevant industry experience in software development
  • Deep expertise in iOS development using Swift and Objective-C
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale technical initiatives across multiple teams and organizational boundaries
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, performance optimization, and reliability engineering
  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration and influencing technical direction
  • Excellent technical communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience mentoring and growing engineering talent
  • Familiarity with complex workflow management and point of sale systems is a plus but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers focused on both technical initiatives and product development
  • Design, build, and test robust, scalable client software that interacts with complex server, network, and hardware systems
  • Develop high-availability, resilient systems capable of operating under varied network and device conditions
  • Drive complex cross-functional projects, often spanning multiple teams and disciplines
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture across geographically distributed teams
  • Work closely with engineering, product, design, and operations teams to deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions
  • Analyze metrics and data to inform decision-making and improve product performance
  • Participate in all phases of product lifecycle, including planning, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and contribute to technical knowledge sharing
