About The Role
As a Registered Midwife in this role, you will provide high-quality, efficient, and woman-centred care, addressing the individual needs of women and their families throughout all phases of pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. You will be committed to delivering holistic care that ensures the best possible outcomes for both mothers and babies, offering support and reassurance every step of the way.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities you will play a key role in guiding and educating women and their families. You will ensure they fully understand clinical interventions and service delivery processes, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health, pregnancy, labour, birth, and postnatal care. Your ability to communicate effectively will be essential in fostering trust and building strong, supportive relationships with the families you care for.
You will also be expected to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies or changes in a woman's condition, using your expertise and judgment to ensure timely and appropriate care. Following the "Australian College of Midwives (ACM) National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral," you will minimise risks and safeguard the well-being of mothers and babies throughout their journey.
While experience in a birthing unit is preferable, it is not essential. We are looking for midwives who provide exceptional care and are eager to grow within our supportive team.

Where You’ll Be Working
- Armidale is set high on the picturesque Northern Tablelands, located halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful tree-lined streets and magnificent autumn colours and has a distinctive seasonal climate. The region offers diversity in outdoor activities such as bushwalking in the nearby World Heritage listed National Parks offering spectacular gorges and waterfalls in Australia. Armidale Rural Referral Hospital Armidale Hospital is a 99-bed facility providing a comprehensive range of services including acute medical and surgical services, obstetrics, paediatrics and a range of diagnostic and allied health services.
- Armidale Rural Referral Hospital provides holistic, woman-centred care to mothers and babies over 34 weeks of gestation.
- The Maternity Unit features 2 birthing rooms with ensuite, and assessment room and a large bath suitable for use in labour. There are 10 beds to care for antenatal and postnatal women and babies.
- You will join our dynamic Midwifery Team working across all areas of the birthing continuum.

- In this role you will always have support. Our Midwives work alongside a collaborative team that includes the Maternity Unit Manager (MUM), Clinical Midwifery Educators (CME), and the Obstetric Team.
Our successful candidate will possess the following:
- Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
- You are a dedicated and compassionate midwife, committed to delivering women-centred care, our maternity unit provides the perfect setting for you to excel. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive, modern care that meets the needs of each woman.
- You will have confidence and a strong ability to recognise when to escalate care, ensuring that every woman receives the highest level of support and attention.
