Job Description

Athena Sports Group is expanding its technical team with the objective of winning the America’s Cup, as well as the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup regattas. The America’s Cup is the oldest competition in international sport and represents the pinnacle of innovation and performance in sailing.

We are seeking a Junior Data Analyst to join our software and data group, with a primary focus on the Athena Pathway Programme (APP). Athena Pathway is focused on building a long-term, equitable route into high-performance sailing for female and youth athletes and will field the British entries for the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup in 2027.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering analysis that supports our Women’s and Youth teams in maximising on-water performance. You will also contribute to the tools that support ongoing performance discovery for both APP and the Senior America’s Cup Team.

Our team values centre on pushing the boundaries of performance through data, design and engineering, whilst fostering an agile, collaborative, creative and supportive environment.

Location: Portsmouth based, with frequent travel and the potential for temporary relocation within Europe to support training and racing.

Responsibilities

  • Process and analyse training and racing data from the team’s AC40 yacht, including boat telemetry and environmental data, to generate clear, actionable insights for sailors and coaches.
  • Work closely with sailors to understand performance questions and translate them into effective data analysis.
  • Contribute to tools used across Athena Sports Group for performance review, debriefs, and ongoing performance tracking.
  • Support on-water training with rapid turnaround analysis where required.
  • Help to define best practices for data quality, repeatability, and validation.
  • Collaborate with the wider engineering team to link sailing performance data with design and simulation outputs.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Practical sailing knowledge (racing background, coaching, or performance analysis experience).
  • Experience using Python for data analysis (e.g. pandas, numpy, matplotlib/plotly or similar).
  • Ability to interpret complex datasets and communicate insights clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • A problem-solving mindset and willingness to get stuck into unfamiliar technical challenges in a collaborative team setting.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience analysing high-performance sailing data (foiling boats, one-design or development classes).
  • Experience with data visualisation dashboards or web-based analysis tools.
  • Exposure to databases (SQL/NoSQL), cloud services, and version-controlled codebases.
  • Background in science, engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.

Benefits

  • Be part of a world-class America’s Cup team working at the intersection of sport and technology, with the chance to contribute directly to our sporting success and push the limits of human and technological performance.
  • Opportunities for growth and development within Athena Pathway and the wider Athena Sports Group.
  • Package includes 25 days annual leave (plus public holidays) per annum, Company Pension Scheme, Private Medical Insurance, Life Assurance, Cycle to Work Scheme.
