Power System Engineer (Testing)

Current Opportunity: EPG is seeking a Power Systems Engineer for full-time employment. This role will focus on Engineering Testing of EPG’s software applications, including its Synchrophasor based EMS platform. EPG develops advanced software applications for the electric power industry that are widely used for real-time operations. EPG’s solutions utilize power system knowledge base, data analytics, high performance computing, machine learning and advanced analytics for solving industry problems such as oscillation monitoring, detection, and source location; wide area situational awareness; integration of renewables; managing and monitoring inverter based renewable resources (IBR); data center monitoring; mission critical control center operations; model validation; event detection and root cause assessments; and advanced platforms for linear state estimation, contingency analysis, WAMS and WAMPAC.

Job Responsibilities:
The engineering testing position plays an integral role on our Power Systems Engineering team in ensuring our software solutions are accurate and useful to our grid operator customers. This individual will be responsible for creating engineering test plans and scripts, executing tests, and identifying, documenting and diagnosing discrepancies. This is a dynamic role with exposure to key stakeholders across the organization. Specific responsibilities will include:
· Engineering Test planning and creation: Design and develop engineering test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures based on software requirements.
· Engineering Software Testing: Execute tests to identify engineering algorithm inconsistencies.
· Root Cause Assessment: Investigate unexpected results to determine root cause and make engineering recommendations for improvement.
· Collaboration: Work closely with QA and Software Development members to discuss issues and ensure resolution in a timely manner based on root cause assessment and recommendations.
· Documentation: Maintain engineering design documentation.
Key Skills
· Proficiency in power system analysis including power flow simulations, contingency analysis, and event analysis. Relevant areas for this position include state estimation, linear state estimation, contingency analysis, cascading outages, EMS applications, and advanced data analytics.
· Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Good communication and collaboration skills.
· Ability to multi-task.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Onsite position based in Pasadena, California (remote candidates will not be considered)
Nice to Haves:
· Prior experience with PSS/E, TARA Power GEM or equivalent tools preferred.
· Applicants with experience in EMS advanced applications, real-time operations support for transmission and distribution systems, and control room technology, including synchrophasor applications.
· Familiarity with Azure DevOps tools
