Job Description

We are seeking a Senior GCP DevOps – HPC Engineer to support a large-scale Pharmaceuticals / Life Sciences initiative. This role is ideal for a seasoned HPC and cloud migration expert with deep experience in SLURM-based environments, Linux systems, and large-scale HPC workloads transitioning to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

As part of a collaborative and fast-paced engineering team, you will lead the migration, design, and optimization of HPC clusters in the cloud, ensuring performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the migration of on-premises SLURM-based HPC clusters to Google Cloud Platform.
  • Design, implement, and manage scalable and secure HPC infrastructure on GCP.
  • Optimize SLURM configurations and workflows for efficient cloud resource utilization.
  • Manage HPC environments with a focus on job scheduling, job efficiency, and cluster scaling.
  • Automate cluster deployment, configuration, and maintenance using Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Bash.
  • Integrate HPC software stacks using Spack for dependency management and installation.
  • Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications using MPI, OpenMP, and other parallel computing frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth migration and ongoing operations.
  • Provide expert-level support for performance tuning, scheduling, and resource optimization.
  • Continuously evaluate GCP HPC services and cost-optimization strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in HPC environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SLURM, MPI, and HPC software.
  • Extensive experience managing Linux-based systems.
  • Proven experience migrating HPC workloads to cloud platforms, preferably GCP.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and Ansible.
  • Experience using Spack for HPC software stack management.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash.
  • In-depth knowledge of GCP services (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC).
  • Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Google Cloud DevOps or related GCP certifications.
  • Experience with Preemptible VMs, HPC VM images, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Knowledge of parallel file systems and HPC data management.
  • Experience with Singularity or Docker in HPC environments.
  • Exposure to Spark or big data frameworks is a plus.
