The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced security professional who will serve as a subject-matter expert for security risk identification and mitigation related to pipeline operations, projects, and construction activities. Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Security, the Corporate Security Specialist is responsible for implementing and monitoring the physical security program and contributing to program development. This position ensures compliance with all federal, provincial/state, and local regulations, as well as company standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to influence and motivate staff, management, and contractors, to promote a proactive security mindset. This role will be based in Calgary, AB.
What You’ll Do
- Act as a subject-matter expert for security risk identification and mitigation related to pipeline operations, projects, and construction activities
- Interpret and provide guidance on security regulations, laws, specifications and standards, and best practices
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for security related matters
- Promote and foster a proactive, positive security culture
- Support the development and implementation of physical security programs
- Liaise within security sector networks to share best practices and resolve escalated issues
- Collaborate across internal stakeholders and with industry partners to continually enhance and execute our security program
- Participate in and support internal and external security assessments and audits
- Develop security plans and training materials for routine operations, projects, and construction activities
- Support projects on new and existing assets to include development of security plans, hazard identification and mitigation, field support, contractor oversight and support, and turnover to Operations
- Conduct regular field visits to station/pipeline work sites to ensure security standards are maintained and supported
- Conduct training programs and exercises to instruct and assess security practices and preparedness
- Conduct and act as an expert resource for investigations, developing and implementing innovative and practical solutions, and sharing of learning opportunities
- Conduct periodic inspections to monitor security program compliance
- Maintain Incident Command System (ICS) minimum qualifications in order to serve as onsite Security Officer in the event of a significant incident
- Participate in and support the workplace Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSEC)
- Perform other duties as required
- Post-secondary education in criminal justice, business administration or other related subject
- Prior law enforcement or security experience in private and/or public sectors
- 6 or more years of related industry experience in oil and gas or pipeline operations (e.g., upstream, midstream or downstream operations)
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Strong technical expertise (security management, investigations, emergency preparedness and response, etc.)
- Proven knowledge of applicable provincial/state and federal legislation
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Proven problem-solving and multitasking capability
- Able to work independently, and collaboratively within teams
- Proficient computer skills
- Skilled in technical reports, presentations and conducting training sessions
- Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, and US)
- Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 30% of work schedule)
- Stay overnight away from home base (estimated up 20% of work schedule)
- Be on-call and provide emergency support as required
- Successfully complete pre-employment Bankruptcy, Credit, Civil and Criminal background checks
