Position Overview
The HR Manager will serve as a strategic partner to operations, providing leadership in labor relations, employee engagement, talent management, compliance, and HR operations. This role requires a hands-on, approachable leader with strong union experience and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Labor Relations
- Act as the primary liaison between management and union representatives.
- Lead grievance investigations, disciplinary actions, and arbitration processes.
- Support contract negotiations and labor strategy development.
- Apply extensive employee relations experience under a collective bargaining agreement.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees.
- Conduct investigations and resolve employee concerns promptly and fairly.
- Represent the company at community and corporate events, with occasional travel to Canada.
Talent Management
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for hourly and salaried roles.
- Partner with operations to ensure staffing levels meet 24/7 production demands.
- Support performance management, succession planning, and employee development.
- Lead a team of three HR professionals while driving attract-and-retain objectives and HR initiatives.
Compliance & Policy Administration
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA).
- Maintain accurate HR records and reporting.
- Collaborate with EHS teams to lead safety and wellness initiatives.
HR Operations & Analytics
- Monitor key HR metrics (turnover, absenteeism) and recommend improvements.
- Prepare HR analytics reports and communicate monthly HR initiatives and announcements.
- Promote change initiatives through proactive communication and relationship building.
- Introduce and support continuous improvement concepts to achieve organizational objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (equivalent experience considered).
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting in an HR Generalist, HRBP, or HR Manager role.
- Strong union labor relations experience (contract interpretation, grievance administration).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
