Job Description


  • Title: Data Annotator (Remote)
  • Engagement: Hourly contract (independent contractor)
  • Location: Remote – candidates based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Dubai, or Australia who are legally able to work as independent contractors in their jurisdiction.


We are hiring for one of our clients to support a short-term AI data-annotation project focused on Ubuntu desktop workflows. Contributors will recreate real computer tasks, capture accurate screenshots, and produce structured step-by-step action annotations to help improve multimodal AI systems.


Role Overview

This role involves working within an Ubuntu desktop environment to accurately reproduce user workflows and document them using screenshots and structured action annotations. The work is detail-oriented and task-based, requiring strong familiarity with Linux desktop usage.

This is not a software engineering or programming role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Recreate GUI-based workflows in an Ubuntu desktop environment
  • Follow provided task instructions and text-based trajectories
  • Capture accurate screenshots at each step
  • Produce structured action annotations (e.g., PyAutoGUI-style JSON)
  • Create new tasks based on provided templates and prompts
  • Maintain high annotation quality and consistency


Required Skills

  • Strong practical experience using Ubuntu/Linux desktop environments
  • Familiarity with common open-source desktop applications, such as:
  • File Manager and system settings
  • Chrome or equivalent browser
  • VLC Media Player
  • LibreOffice (Writer, Calc, Impress)
  • GIMP
  • Thunderbird
  • VS Code


Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in UI testing, QA, IT support, Linux desktop administration, or data annotation
  • Familiarity with task recording or automation tools (optional)


Work Details

  • Fully remote, task-based work
  • Expected availability: approximately 30 hours per week, with some overlap with Pacific Time for coordination
  • Engagement duration: ~2 months, with potential extension based on project needs
  • Independent contractor engagement, subject to applicable local laws
