Job Description
Make a living making a difference.
About Us
Camp Quality New Zealand is a charitable trust dedicated to bringing fun, hope, and happiness to children (5–16 years) living with cancer. Through our camps and recreational activities, we provide a stress free environment where kids can just be kids again. Our programmes are powered by a passionate network of volunteers and funded by the generosity of Kiwis.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a strategic General Manager to lead Camp Quality into a new era of sustainability and growth.
This is not a business as usual role. Following a recent organisational review, and completing our 40th year of operations we are looking for a leader to guide the organisation into the future. You will move beyond day to day operations to focus on governance, financial health, and systems thinking, ensuring our impact lasts for generations to come.
You will not be doing this alone. You will lead a dedicated national team, allowing you to focus on the big picture of supporting our mainly volunteer organisation to do what it does best and deliver amazing camps.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic & Cultural Leadership: Execute the Board approved Strategic Plan and champion a culture that reflects our values and Te Tiriti commitments.
- Regional Connection & Travel: This role requires a hands on connection with our community. You will be expected to travel across our five regions to attend meetings, camps, and training events from time to time.
- Financial Governance: Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow to ensure the organisation remains financially robust and efficient.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain our body of knowledge (SOPs and Policies) to ensure safety and consistency across all regions.
- Volunteer Engagement: Our workforce is largely volunteer based. You must be comfortable working flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to engage effectively with our volunteers when they are active.
- People Leadership: Mentor your direct reports and provide strategic support to our Regional Managers and vast volunteer network.
- Ambassadorship: Act as the primary link between the Board, staff, and key external partners (e.g., Child Cancer Foundation, Hospital Networks).
About You
You are a systems thinker with a head for business and a heart for the cause. You understand that passion fuels a charity, but prudent management sustains it.
- Experience: Proven executive leadership experience, ideally within the Not for Profit sector.
- Skills: Strong financial literacy (budgeting/reporting) and experience reporting to a Board.
- Leadership: A collaborative leader who can inspire dispersed teams (staff and volunteers) in a remote environment.
- Tech Savvy: Comfortable leading a virtual organisation using modern digital tools (Google Suite, Cloud-based systems).
- Te Tiriti Literacy: A clear understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Why Join Us?
- True Flexibility: This is a fully remote role. Wherever you are in Aotearoa, you can lead from where you live.
- Meaningful Work: Every decision you make directly contributes to putting a smile on the face of a child dealing with cancer.
- Strategic Support: You are stepping into a role with a clear roadmap for success and a supportive Board.
