About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable backend systems that support Raft’s flagship products. Your expertise will drive the architecture of robust, secure, and high-performance solutions, ensuring that our applications meet the stringent requirements of government and enterprise environments. As a technical leader, you will mentor junior engineers, foster best practices, and contribute hands-on coding expertise to solve complex technical challenges. You will work closely with clients during deployment, gathering feedback to continuously enhance system performance and user experience. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence large-scale projects that serve critical government functions within a fully remote work environment, with preferred locations including Hawaii, DMV/NCR, Tampa, FL, or Hanscom AFB, MA.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in backend software engineering, with a focus on scalable, distributed systems
- Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with microservices architecture and API design
- Deep understanding of DevSecOps principles, including security integration (ICAM, encryption, access control)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
- Knowledge of enterprise security standards and best practices for government systems
- Proven leadership in mentoring and developing engineering teams
- Experience with real-time data processing and visualization
- Familiarity with AI/ML interfaces and data-driven decision-making tools
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active TS SCI security clearance; preference for candidates with current clearance
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills
- Hands-on approach to technical leadership and innovation
- Lead the design and development of scalable backend architectures supporting mission-critical applications
