Job Description


About the Opportunity:

The Senior Project Engineer Manager designing electrical high voltage substations is a technical leader across engineering teams, responsible for leading on-shore substation and HVDC/FACTS balance-of-plant design packages. The role focuses on budget, planning, and quality performance, planning and leading basic and detailed design, managing execution progress, and coordinating engineering design work packages by subcontractors. The engineer must be capable of self-performing designs and ensuring compliance with customer specifications, national regulations, and internal standards. This position includes certifying finished engineering products, including Professional Engineering reviews and sealing, and operates with a high level of autonomy.


Responsibilities:

• Serve as the project technical leader to develop scope of work, plan schedule and budgets, and monitor engineering activities and deliverables.

• Provide technical leadership and interface with Tendering, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, Product Engineering, EHS, Quality, Project Management Sourcing, and Engineering subcontractors.

• Ensure design activities comply with all applicable codes, standards, and internal policies on time and on budget.

• Apply knowledge of substation equipment and disciplines such as AIS & GIS, Transformers, P&C, and HV Electrical system engineering including HVDC and FACTS.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design or oversee designs of utility and industrial substations, including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, specifications, outdoor equipment application, building layouts, auxiliary power, and raceway design.

• Propose and implement reporting processes to measure engineering progress and ensure timely delivery of documents and responses to customer comments.

• Manage technical risk and implement design strategies, GATE, and safety reviews.

• Use critical judgment to solve complex engineering problems.

• Act as a resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues.

• Communicate difficult or sensitive information to stakeholders and build consensus.

• Develop persuasion skills to influence project teams, customers, and stakeholders.

• Identify, alert, and propose corrective actions for major scope deviations to the Project Engineering Director.


Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in HVDC systems, FACTS, industrial, renewable, or utility HV and EHV substation design.

• Professional Engineering license in the United States, with willingness to review and seal drawings.

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including international travel, complying with relevant travel and tax policies.

Compensation:

• Pay range for U.S. candidates between $111,200 and $185,400.

• Geographic salary differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain areas.

• Specific pay influenced by experience, education, and skill set.

• Discretionary annual bonus eligibility.
