Artic Slope Technical Services Inc (ASTS) is seeking a Full-Stack Software Developer to join our NextGen Weather Processor (NWP) and Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) Data Acquisition System (ADAS) teams that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
The fully-automated NWP identifies aviation safety hazards and translates weather information needed to predict route blockage and airspace capacity constraints up to 8 hours in advance.
- Provides a consistent weather picture, with timely analyses and short-term predictive elements tailored to specific aviation requirements.
- Translates the weather picture into reliable airspace constraints for integration into air traffic decision-making.
- Enables safe, timely, and efficient operation of the NAS in all kinds of weather and seasons.
- Consolidates multiple FAA weather programs with overlapping capabilities into a single NextGen weather system.
We are looking for an experienced individual to work independently and in a team environment. This individual:
- Needs to provide expertise in software requirements analysis, design, designs reviews, development, software testing, integration, installation, and maintenance of complex computer systems.
- Have experience with software programming languages used for the National Airspace System (NAS) and NAS support systems. These languages include Python, Java, C or C++, and SQL.
- Provides expertise in the development and improvement of software development processes.
All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
- Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).
- Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
- The company is unable to sponsor candidates at this time.
Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Education Requirement
All Non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Math, or a Bachelor’s degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and five (5) years related work experience in a computer science or math field. OR
- Master’s Degree in any field of study with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of either undergrad or grad study in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and three (3) years related work experience in a computer science or math field.
- Experience in:
- JavaScript
- AngularJS or similar Frameworks
- UNIX/Linux Operating Systems (RHEL)
- Version Control (Git preferred)
- Automated Build Tools (Bamboo, Gradle, Maven, etc.)
- Data Engineering (JSON Schema, XML, Schema Definition, etc.)
- Ability to:
- Work independently, as well as a team.
- Research and problem solve.
- Familiar with:
- Object Relational Databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
- Python and Shell Scripting.
- Java, C# or C++
- Java Messaging Service (JMS) and ActiveMQ
- Provide 2nd level engineering support for ADAS and NWP.
- Support software development/testing/integration/troubleshooting activities for NWP and ADAS systems.
- Review and comment on system engineering documents, system requirement documents, software testing documents; training material.
- Attend system design reviews, technical interchange meetings, any other meetings as requested to support program and team.
- Possess a technical understanding of systems, databases, networking, computing environments, virtualization.
- Produce efficient or elegant code based on requirements.
- Able to:
- Support software applications in Linux environments.
- Provide troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining, and improving existing software.
- Provide end-user functionality support to the field remotely via the helpdesk.
