POSITION OVERVIEW FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
The Director of Engineering (DOE) reports directly to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a trusted advisor and strategic leader across both operational and technical domains. The Director of Engineering leads strategic planning and development efforts for the direction, infrastructure, and control of all engineering service development and project execution. Oversees all engineering production and development activities for the Drafting, Design, Engineering, Automation, Controls, and Engineering Project Management functions. The Director of Engineering also provides both technical and organizational leadership and is responsible for the formulation and execution of long-term engineering objectives in alignment with defined business goals. The Director of Engineering serves as both a technical and business leader, responsible for driving profitable growth across all engineering service lines. This includes full P&L accountability, strategic business development, and operational leadership to ensure the department meets revenue, margin, and client satisfaction goals by maintaining client relationships to increase repeat business, referrals, and business opportunities.

FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
Organizational Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Measures the performance of the Engineering group to ensure high levels of quality assurance and quality control, efficiency, cost-consciousness, and client satisfaction.
- Analyses and approves/declines incoming engineering project opportunities for consistency with Agilitech’s strategic vision, capabilities, and resource availability.
- Drives accountability for achieving department P&L goals, including revenue growth, cost management, and margin improvement.
- Forecasts resource needs by project profitability to maintain balanced utilization and operational efficiency.
- Utilizes detailed analysis and high-level reporting, and metrics to evaluate productivity, quality, and consistency of engineering operations and business strategies regularly to drive continuous improvement.
- Actively monitors and manages all engineering operations standards of performance on a systems, services, team, and individual level.
- Accountable for providing ongoing guidance to the Engineering group managers and teams regarding project definition, scope, philosophy, activities, milestones, and staffing requirements.
- Coaches the engineering team leaders on project execution and project performance processes to promote a culture of high performance, continuous growth, and development.
- Promotes the development of operational and/or technical innovations consistent with the Company's vision and competitive advantage for the maintenance and improvement of core engineering and operational processes.
Technical Leadership
- Provides technical direction on small to large-scale projects to engineering staff at all levels, as required.
- Performs functional engineering work on small to large-scale projects when resource scarcity demands.
- Conducts regular engineering management meetings to review all engineering production.
- Responsible for facilitating and ensuring cross-functional communication and consistency between engineering disciplines.
- Facilitates the resolution of complex employee relations issues, working with all parties to mitigate conflict. In consultation with HR Manager, prescribes, documents, and tracks appropriate and consistent disciplinary actions, corrective measures or conflict resolution strategies to maximize team success and minimize legal risk.
- Reviews engineering and operational SOPs, best practices, and QA/QC procedures to ensure internal processes are consistent cross-functionally and are maintained and executed with integrity to produce safe and quality work.
Talent Management
- Consults on and approves all compensation decisions, requests for personnel, and talent development functions to ensure the business can develop and retain talent through effective resourcing, training & development, performance management, and reward strategies.
- Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of all engineering functions.
- Assists engineering management in evaluating the performance of team members, providing guidance regarding coaching, counseling, and development.
- Ensures employees have the right skills, tools, and talents to perform their roles, and that the engineering group has the right talent in the right roles.
- Works closely with engineering management and employees to improve work relationships, build and maintain morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Marketing & Client Relationship Management
- Initiates and implements external marketing strategies and initiatives based on the company’s strategic vision.
- Works to develop strategies to both maintain and increase client loyalty and retention and meet business objectives.
- Consults on Client Relationship Management (CRM) team efforts for the Engineering group.
- Attends client lunches, dinners, and events and engages in other efforts to build rapport with clients to increase repeat business, referrals, and business opportunities.
- Connects with key clients to ensure continued good relations and success throughout the relationship lifecycle.
- Performs research and engages in outreach to identify new potential clients.
- Manages the annual/biannual/quarterly or service-specific client satisfaction surveys to receive actionable data to measure client satisfaction, drive both specific and systemic organizational or technical improvements.
- Conducts market research to identify new prospects that align with the company’s target client profile
- Works with the internal marketing team to generate outreach campaigns to connect with prospects
- Performs personal outreach to key stakeholders to educate prospects on Agilitech value propositions
- Consults on the creation of client service presentations to inform potential or existing clients about the company's services.
- Works to measure and monitor client satisfaction with the company by engaging in project look-backs with clients; works to ensure repeated business by identifying and resolving any new or outstanding issues.
- Analyzes turnover and exit interview data in concert with the HR Manager and C.O.O. to proactively identify trends and provide recommendations for organizational improvement.
Business Development & Financial Leadership
- Develops and executes the annual business plan and budget for the Engineering division, including revenue, gross margin, and utilization targets.
- Partners with executive leadership define growth strategies for existing and new markets.
- Oversee proposal development, scope, pricing, and contract negotiations to ensure profitability and alignment with company objectives.
- Tracks financial performance metrics (billability, backlog, pipeline conversion) and adjusts staffing or pricing strategies accordingly.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key accounts, industry partners, and prospective clients to generate new business.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Sales teams to position Agilitech's engineering capabilities in target sectors.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of Engineering Management or equivalent leadership experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License, preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, preferred.
