Position

We are seeking a hands-on, service-oriented IT Systems Engineer to join Getslash’s expanding technology operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for administering customer-facing IT environments, supporting infotainment and connectivity solutions deployed on cruise vessels worldwide, and ensuring stable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure operations.

This position is ideal for a Linux-enthusiast with strong problem-solving abilities, a passion for customer support, and the desire to work in a dynamic, international environment that occasionally includes travel.

Objectives and Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and monitor customer IT systems across multiple environments
  • Receive, triage, and prioritize service requests via ticketing system or phone
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for customers within the support organization
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and update Getslash software solutions on client vessels (both remotely and on-site)
  • Collaborate closely with the application development team to optimize product performance and ensure operational stability
  • Monitor infrastructure components to proactively identify issues and performance trends
  • Participate in the incident management process, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation and knowledge articles
  • Support cross-functional projects to improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency

Work Environment and Collaboration

  • Fully remote position within the United States, with preference for candidates able to overlap with European time zones
  • Hands-on technical role requiring close collaboration with engineering, operations, and support teams based in Germany
  • Regular interaction with cruise-line clients, shipboard technical personnel, and internal development teams
  • Travel to Germany for onboarding and technical alignment, plus periodic travel to cruise vessels for deployments, maintenance, and on-site support. Travel is not an extended shipboard assignment.

Experience and Education

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration, IT operations, networking, or technical support
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related fields; equivalent experience considered
  • Practical experience with Linux environments, command-line tools, and basic routing/network diagnostics
  • Experience working with SQL databases (preferably PostgreSQL) in an operational or troubleshooting capacity
  • Background in incident management, technical customer support, or 24/7 service environments is highly beneficial
  • Fundamental competency in firewall systems and network security principles preferred
  • Experience working independently in distributed or remote teams, ideally in international or multi-time-zone settings
  • Strong communication skills in English; basic German reading/writing skills are helpful and can be developed internally
  • Background in OTT/IPTV systems, video/audio on demand and live media streaming via multicast and HLS, preferred but not required.

Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Analytical, structured thinker with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
  • High degree of reliability, ownership, and accountability in managing technical issues
  • Pragmatic, hands-on mindset capable of resolving complex system problems independently
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving operational environments
  • Customer-oriented communicator able to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Adaptable, resilient, and solution-driven; able to stay calm during urgent system incidents
  • Organized and detail-oriented in documentation, ticket handling, and follow-through
  • Willingness to travel internationally for onboarding and shipboard assignments
  • Integrity, professionalism, curiosity, and a strong desire for continuous learning and development
