At Eni, we are looking for a Reservoir Engineer within the Zubair Field Operating Division in Basra, Iraq. You will be responsible for evaluating, developing and optimising oil and gas reservoirs to maximise recovery and ensure long-term field performance. Your focus will include data acquisition, well and reservoir surveillance, early production diagnostics, and supporting operational decisions to deliver safe, efficient and optimised field performance.

Your employment contract will be managed by Eni International Resources Ltd (EIRL).

Main Responsibilities

  • Define reservoir properties based on analysis of available geoscience, pressure, and production data. Determine the need for additional data acquisition and manage the data acquisition process.
  • Monitor daily production data, pressures, temperatures, and well operating parameters across the field.
  • Perform well and reservoir surveillance through analysis of PI trends, water cut evolution, and pressure behaviour.
  • Identify abnormal trends, underperforming wells, sand production, and water breakthroughs, and provide early warnings to operations teams.
  • Monitor and optimise water injection performance, including tracking injection rates, pressures, voidage replacement ratio (VRR), and waterflood sweep efficiency. Recommend adjustments to ensure balanced reservoir support and mitigate breakthrough risks.
  • Maintain and update field monitoring dashboards and surveillance systems (e.g., PI systems, real-time data platforms).
  • Recommend development plans, such as well placements, workovers, and EOR/IOR strategies.
  • Collaborate with geologists, petrophysicists, and drilling engineers to design optimal field development plans.
  • Monitor field performance and identify opportunities to enhance production.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to management and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure data quality and maintain reservoir engineering databases and models.
  • Support production optimisation by recommending choke adjustments, artificial lift tuning, and remedial actions.
  • Collaborate with production engineers and operations to troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Validate data quality, ensure integrity of field measurements, and coordinate with instrumentation teams when needed.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to reservoir management plans and long-term monitoring strategies.
  • Participate in technical reviews or collaborative studies on reservoir management and related topics.

Skills And Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience as a Reservoir Engineer; experience with unconventional reservoirs or EOR/IOR projects is preferred.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Strong understanding of reservoir physics, fluid flow, and petroleum geology.
  • Proficiency in industry software (e.g., Eclipse, Petrel, CMG, OFM, Ecrin, PVTsim, Excel).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of programming tools (Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and automation (desirable).
  • Exposure to machine learning applications in reservoir engineering (desirable).
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing skills.
