Job Title: Node.js Backend Developer
Location: FULLY REMOTE
Interview Focus: ~60% TypeScript (backend-focused)
Note: This is a 100% backend development role. Candidates must have exceptional communication skills and a strong manager reference (LinkedIn profile required, with manager clearly listed by title).
Role Overview
Universal Destinations & Resorts is executing a large-scale systems integration initiative within its Food & Beverage Mobile Platform. The Backend Microservices team plays a critical role in this program by designing and delivering scalable RESTful APIs consumed by multiple downstream systems.
We are seeking Node.js Backend Developers with deep JavaScript/TypeScript backend expertise to help build reliable, high-quality microservices in a collaborative Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js
- Implement backend-focused TypeScript solutions, including use of ETags (Entity Tags) and HTTP headers
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and Quality Engineers to deliver scalable and reliable systems
- Participate in Agile ceremonies within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) delivery framework
- Support complex system integrations, ensuring APIs are well-documented and consumable by dependent teams
- Apply engineering best practices including:
- Unit Testing
- Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Performance testing
- Identify technical pain points and proactively propose backend architecture and performance improvements
- Advocate for backend engineering best practices and clean code standards
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js (server-side development)
- Advanced proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript (backend-focused)
- Proven experience designing and building REST APIs
- Swagger / OpenAPI experience is a plus
- Strong experience with Express.js or similar Node.js frameworks
- Experience working with:
- Document databases (CouchDB preferred)
- Relational databases (MS SQL Server preferred)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins preferred)
- Solid experience using Git or similar version control systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in Agile / SAFe environments
Not Required / Out of Scope
- Mobile application development
- Frontend frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
- Full-stack development
This role is 80%+ backend focused
