Job Description
About Cashew:
Cashew is an early-stage startup making market research simple and accessible. Marketers use our self-serve portal to design and launch studies in minutes, and consumers respond through our mobile app. The result is a fast, intuitive way for brands to get high-quality insights.
Where we are now:
- Rapidly growing our Canadian client base and moving into the US this summer
- Highly engaged proprietary database of consumers who use our mobile app
- Leveraging AI to simplify the manual workflow behind consumer market research
- Founded by researchers who have decades of experience working at leading firms
- We have a small (< 10 amazing humans) and tight knit team in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto
About the role:
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our remote-first team.
What you'll bring:
- At least 5 years of professional development experience. We're not going to nitpick over the number of years, but this is a senior role and you should have the ability to take a project from idea to deployment. Our tech stack is mainly Node, React, TypeScript, with Postgres.
- Product mindset with a healthy customer obsession. We're looking for engineers who care about the business and are excited to learn about customer needs and solve their problems.
- Love of learning and autonomy. As an early-stage startup, things move fast and not everything will be perfectly defined. You should enjoy variety, thrive in ambiguity, and be excited to pick up new tools, languages, or customer workflows as the product evolves.
- Clear and open communication. We believe software is a team sport and communication is a vital skill for engineers.
- Thoughtfulness and enthusiasm in company, team, and culture building. We believe culture is shaped by everyone on the team. You’ll play a major role in defining how we work and how we show up for each other. We’re looking for people who are excited to help build a culture where talented people can do their best work.
Leveraging AI for content generation and in-depth market research analysis is central to our business. While expertise in this area is not required, we prefer individuals who demonstrate passion, enthusiasm, and a strong eagerness to learn about this field.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary with equity compensation.
- Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, and vision) covered in Canada.
- Flexible hours and a remote-first environment.
- Company-provided laptop and a one-time stipend for additional equipment to set up your ideal remote workspace.
- 3 weeks of vacation.
More things you should know:
- Cashew is a remote-first company. The team is based out of Calgary and Toronto, but have significant experience working on distributed teams. We won't say "remote" and then expect you to be chained to Slack + Zoom 8 hours a day.
- That said, we also believe in the value of in-person interaction. We have team-wide get-togethers at least twice a year, fully paid for by the company. At this time, we strongly prefer folks within +/- 3h of MST.
- We balance shipping with quality tradeoffs. We are relentless about learning and iterating quickly but balance that with contexts that require more caution. For example, we prioritize speed for social features but take extra care with any code that touches any private data.
- We are pragmatic with tech choices and would rather spend time on business-driving work than fiddling with configuration or debugging the latest hotness from a bleeding edge framework.
- We are a real company and this is a bona fide full time position. This means the usual collection of health benefits, flexible PTO, and discretionary work budget will be offered.
We value diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and encourage all qualified candidates to apply. If you’re excited by what we’re building, get in touch at info@cashewresearch.com.
