Job Description
Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users. From utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios and beyond.
At Skydio, the combination of our platform, technology foundation, and team enables our engineers and researchers to develop, deploy, iterate, and improve upon the state of the art in robot autonomy better and faster than anywhere else in the world.
About The Role
As an User Experience (UX) Software Engineer at Skydio, you will help build the user-facing interfaces to our industry-leading autonomous small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) and deploy these products to our customers. You will design and develop the human-machine teaming front-end that enables a wide range of use cases, including situational awareness, emergency response, inspection, mapping, and a new paradigm of multi-platform coordination. As all end-users are exposed to the incredible capabilities of Skydio platforms through your software, these User Interfaces (UI) are extremely important and your work on them will thus be extraordinarily impactful. The National Security team at Skydio specializes in tailoring our technology platform to meet the needs of Defense users domestically and abroad. You will work with the broader Skydio engineering organization to align capabilities and UX with this user base and its unique needs. Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Design and build user interfaces to Skydio products through collaboration across our autonomy, mobile, wireless, embedded, and flight test teams
- Rapidly prototype and iteratively enhance user interfaces to validate industry requirements and take ownership of those software products as they mature into robust commercial products
- Capture, understand, and react to customer feedback to drive rapid improvements to overall user experience
- Proficiency in Android including Java, Kotlin, and C++
- Ability to build full-stack solutions that are prominently featured in mobile user interfaces
- Even better: Experience developing Ground Control Station (GCS) software for robots
- Even better: Experience using National Security Situational Awareness (SA) tools (e.g., ATAK)
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time
- Compensation for certain positions may vary based on the position’s location.
