Biohub is leading the new era of AI-powered biology to cure or prevent disease through its 501c3 medical research organization, with the support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The Team

To develop a dynamic, integrated view of biological systems in health and disease, Biohub aims to push forward the development and application of new imaging technologies over the next 10 to 15 years. Biohub researchers will collaboratively develop breakthrough biological imaging systems centered around grand challenges that push the boundaries of what we can see and measure to obtain deep insights into the architecture of complex biological systems at the molecular level.

The Opportunity

Biohub invites applications for the position of Manager, TEM Technical Program. This is a senior R&D engineering leadership role responsible for overseeing the operations, personnel, and strategic development of the institute’s TEM technical program. The successful candidate will provide scientific, technical and administrative leadership to ensure that the institute maintains the highest standards of technical innovation, research support, and cross-functional collaborations.

What You'll Do

  • Leadership: Provide overall leadership and management of the TEM R&D Division, including supervision of scientific, technical, and administrative staff.
  • Operations: Oversee the continuous improvement of advanced TEM instrumentation and facilities. Promote the development and implementation of new software, related to TEM operations and data acquisition.
  • Research: Facilitate and support a broad range of research activities by internal and external investigators, ensuring access to state-of-the-art methodologies.
  • Outreach: Represent the TEM R&D Division within the institute and in interactions with external partners
  • Collaboration support: Contribute to the preparation of institutional reports, external collaborative agreements, and peer-reviewed publications.

What You'll Bring

Essential -

  • Ph.D. in structural biology, biophysics, or a related discipline with at least 10 years of experience in TEM research and development.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership in a scientific or core facility environment, including staff supervision and program development.
  • Extensive knowledge of TEM instrumentation, software and data acquisition strategies, including cryoEM, cryoET, and advanced imaging workflows.
  • Extensive experience in single-particle and tomography data processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt and adapt novel methods in image acquisition, processing and analysis for cryoEM and cryoET.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex operations and foster collaborative research.
  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of cryoEM.

Nice to have –

  • Experience in cryoFIB lamella preparation.
  • Operational experience in research facility maintenance and associated logistics.
  • Technical expertise in laboratory and facility requirements for high-end TEM instruments, including site planning, infrastructure design, installation, and commissioning.

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for a new hire in this role is $214,000.00 - $295,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.

This role is a hybrid position requiring you to be onsite for at least 60% of the working month, approximately 3 days a week, with specific in-office days determined by the team’s manager.
