About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead field operations on a high-profile water/wastewater infrastructure program in Oregon. This leader will oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met across complex civil, structural, and mechanical scopes. The Senior Superintendent will partner closely with Project Management, Engineering, and Commissioning teams to deliver a best-in-class facility serving critical public needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Leadership & ExecutionDirect and coordinate all on-site construction activities, including heavy civil, concrete, structural steel, mechanical process equipment, yard piping, and electrical/instrumentation (I&C).
- Sequence work and maintain short-interval schedules, look-ahead plans, and daily work plans; lead daily huddles and weekly production meetings.
- Manage self-perform crews and multiple subcontractors; verify manpower, equipment, and materials meet production goals.
- Safety & ComplianceChampion a zero-incident culture; implement site-specific Safety Plans, JHAs/JSAs, PTMs, and enforce OSHA and state (OR-OSHA) requirements.
- Coordinate permits, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and excavation safety; conduct safety audits and corrective actions.
- Quality Control & Commissioning ReadinessEnforce ITPs, inspection hold points, and start-up/commissioning prerequisites; supervise equipment setting/alignment, hydrostatic testing, disinfection, pressure testing, leak tests, FAT/SAT support, and punch-list closure.
- Validate installation against design documents, submittals, shop drawings, and manufacturer requirements; ensure as-built accuracy and turnover package completeness.
- Planning, Scheduling & Cost ControlCollaborate with the Project Manager and Scheduler on baseline and updated schedules (CPM), work package planning, and constraint removal.
- Monitor labor production, equipment utilization, and material consumption; drive cost-effective means and methods and value engineering in the field.
- Subcontractor & Vendor ManagementLead coordination meetings, enforce contract requirements, review and approve work plans, and verify progress prior to billings.
- Oversee delivery logistics, laydown planning, crane picks, rigging plans, and specialty vendor start-up.
- Stakeholder CoordinationInterface with the owner, construction manager, engineer-of-record, inspectors, and regulatory agencies; host site walks and progress reviews.
- Maintain transparent reporting: daily logs, QA/QC records, safety metrics, production reports, RFIs, and field change documentation.
- Risk Management & Problem SolvingIdentify schedule and field risks early; implement mitigations and recovery plans.
- Resolve technical and constructability issues swiftly, escalating when necessary.
Qualifications Required:
- 10+ years of progressive field leadership in water/wastewater construction (WWTPs, WTPs, pump stations, process facilities), including at least 5 years as Superintendent/General Superintendent on large, complex projects.
- Demonstrated experience with process mechanical systems (pumps, blowers, mixers, clarifiers, digesters, filters, chemical feed), large-diameter yard piping, and coordination with electrical/I&C.
- Proven track record delivering projects to stringent quality and commissioning standards and regulatory requirements.
- Deep knowledge of OSHA/OR-OSHA, environmental compliance, permitting, and public works specifications.
- Proficiency with construction management tools (e.g., Procore/CMiC, Bluebeam), look-ahead planning, and production tracking.
- Strong leadership, communication, and subcontractor management skills; ability to drive schedule adherence and field productivity.
Preferred:
- Experience on projects $500M+ or multi-phase programs; familiarity with CMAR/CMGC delivery.
- Background coordinating with union trades and/or mixed labor environments.
- Certifications: OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space, Rigging/Signal, Excavation Competent Person.
- Knowledge of AWWA, WEF, ASME, AWS standards relevant to water/wastewater construction.
- Experience supporting start-up, commissioning, performance testing, and owner training.
