Job Description
Conversational AI Engineer (relocate to Tokyo, Japan)
Join a small but ambitious team developing a new AI-driven consumer product that’s already live in 5 countries. You'll focus on crafting seamless and helpful conversational experiences, working at the cutting edge of LLMs, prompt design, and real-world dialogue systems.
This is an in-person role based in Tokyo. Remote work isn’t possible due to the close collaboration required across teams.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Designing and implementing smart, user-friendly conversation flows that feel natural and contextual.
• Building reliable systems for understanding intent, managing dialogue state, and handling edge cases.
• Experimenting with different prompting strategies to guide model behavior effectively.
• Connecting conversational interfaces with backend services and data sources.
• Turning product ideas into fully working features with production-level Python code.
• Maintaining reusable templates, prompts, and documentation for future scaling.
• Sharing your ideas, demos, and learnings with a tight-knit team of engineers and product thinkers.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
• Strong Python skills and professional software engineering experience.
• Proven track record building applications with modern LLMs (chatbots, assistants, or agents).
• Deep familiarity with prompt tuning, context handling, and dialog orchestration.
• Experience integrating with APIs, deploying to production, and writing maintainable code.
• Knowledge of conversational frameworks and retrieval techniques (e.g. RAG).
• Comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
• Willing to relocate to Tokyo and work onsite (visa sponsorship provided).
Bonus If You Bring:
• Experience with LangChain, vector search, or orchestration libraries.
• Familiarity with vector DBs like FAISS or Pinecone.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or similar).
• Exposure to multimodal systems or user-facing AI products.
• Awareness of usability principles for conversational UX.
