About the Role
The Senior HR and Payroll Manager will serve as a strategic business partner responsible for the full spectrum of human resources activities across our US and Mexico operations. This role requires a seasoned professional who can manage complex payroll systems, ensure regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and support our growing organization's talent management needs.
What you’ll do
- Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees in the United States and Mexico
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll execution while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and international regulations
- Prepare comprehensive payroll reports for third-party auditors and vendors
- Coordinate with employee benefits providers to ensure accurate reporting and administration
- Liaise with property and casualty insurance providers regarding employee-related matters
- Maintain payroll records and documentation in accordance with legal requirements
- Talent Acquisition & Management
- Partner with ownership and management team to identify staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies
- Source, screen, and coordinate the hiring process for open positions across all locations
- Develop and maintain relationships with recruiting agencies, job boards, and other talent sources
- Conduct reference checks and coordinate background screening processes
- Ensure smooth onboarding processes for new hires
- Policy & Compliance Management
- Maintain and update employee handbook to reflect current policies and legal requirements
- Ensure consistent adherence to company policies and procedures across the organization
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and international employment laws
- Develop and implement HR policies that support business objectives
- Conduct regular policy reviews and updates as needed
- Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Administer the employee review process, ensuring timely and comprehensive evaluations
- Handle employee relations issues including harassment complaints, workplace conflicts, and disciplinary matters
- Provide guidance and support to managers on employee-related issues
- Investigate workplace complaints and implement appropriate resolution strategies
- Maintain confidential employee records and documentation
- Strategic HR Functions
- Partner with leadership to develop HR strategies that support business growth
- Analyze HR metrics and provide insights to improve organizational effectiveness
- Support organizational development initiatives and change management
- Ensure consistent application of HR practices across distributed workforce
- Help develop and manage company-wide SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) library using Loom software
What You Bring
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive HR management experience
- Proven experience managing payroll and HR functions for multi-location operations
- Experience with international payroll (Mexico experience preferred)
- Previous experience in distribution, manufacturing, or similar industry preferred
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and payroll software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with benefits administration platforms
- Knowledge of applicant tracking systems
- Regulatory Knowledge (preference)
- Thorough understanding of US federal and state employment laws
- Knowledge of Mexican labor laws and regulations preferred
- Experience with FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and other employment legislation
- Understanding of workers' compensation and safety regulations

- Preferred Qualifications
- Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent certifications)
- Experience with third-party auditing processes
- Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) preferred
- Experience managing remote or distributed teams
- Knowledge of import/export regulations as they relate to employment
